There are two topics close to my heart: Data Engineering on Azure and Neurodiversity.
Data Engineering on Azure
As a beginner, it can be difficult to get started with building data applications in the Azure cloud. There are just so many things you must take into account, and there are just so many options to choose from!
Choice overload? With the options aplenty attitude, it can be difficult to make the right decisions from the start.
Does starting with Azure have to be complicated though? Actually … no! This is why I love explaining complicated topics in a way that *even* beginners can understand!
Diversity
As an Autistic individual with ADHD, diversity is an important part of my life. I truly believe that diverse teams drive better results. However, as a neurodivergent individual, sometimes it is a little bit more difficult to be understood at work. To enable others to better understand neurodiversity, I share my story in conferences and Podcasts.
Career
2016 – 2018
My background is actually in Finance and Real Estate, can you believe it? I started off my career as an economist, doing research on the Dutch housing market.
2018-2020
Even though I loved doing research, I liked working with data just a little bit more. – Luckily, I was invited to join the Data Lake Team at Rabobank in 2018. In this team, I learned how to program Python, Scala, and finally Apache Spark!
In 2020 I was even one of the first people to pass the Databricks Certified Associate for Apache Spark 2.4 at the Databricks summit in Amsterdam!
2021- now
How different it is to work on Azure! Nowadays, in the Azure cloud, we build fast scaling data applications much more quickly. I love working with tools like Azure Databricks and Azure DevOps.
